4 days old

The puppies are doing great, and growing fast. They are active and vocal when not sleeping.  Here are their weights tonight, in birth order:

#1 - 7 1/8 oz.  - This puppy weighed 6.5 oz at birth and then went down to just under 6 oz.  He has struggled to catch up, mainly because his big brother and sisters push him out of the way at meal time.  I have started giving him one-on-one time with Silvi and he is beginning to gain.  He has remained very feisty throughout.

#2 - 14 3/8 oz. - This girl is a chunk!  She has gained about 4 oz. since she was born.

#3 - 13 1/8 oz. - Has gained a little over 3.5 oz. since birth.

#4 - 14 oz.- This guy is really cute and when he can't get to a meal he actually makes very  persistent barking sounds!  He has gained 4.25 oz. since birth.

#5 - 13 oz. - This pretty little girl has gained almost 3 oz. She is very cute.

Introducing...

The babies!!  These guys are so active!  Getting decent photos was just about impossible.  Here are a few to start.

1.  Bi-black boy - born at 10:05pm - 6.5oz

2.  Tri girl - born at 11:14pm - 10 3/8oz.

 

3.   Bi-blue girl - born at 11:42pm -9 1/2 oz.

4.  Tri boy - born at 12:35am - 9 3/4oz.

5.  Blue Merle girl - born at 1:48am - 10 1/8oz.

 

We have puppies!

Silvi had 5 puppies last night!  Her first puppy, a boy, was born at just after 10pm.  We think he is a bi-black.  His is the little tail on the far left.  The next puppy was a tri girl.  She is on the far right.  Then she had a blue girl (possibly a bi-blue), the one right in the middle.  After that came a tri boy, just to the right of the blue girl.  And finally, another blue girl, second from the left.  More updates to come.

Temp has dropped

Silvi's temp was down to 98.1 this morning.  She didn't eat her breakfast either.  I expect we'll have puppies very soon!  Silvi's timing couldn't be better.  I asked her to wait until the weekend and she did.  We had 25 people over for Christmas dinner yesterday, and it would have been NUTS if she'd decided to have her puppies then.  We have no plans this weekend, except to wait for puppies.  Here is a picture of Silvi at 8 1/2 weeks.

About 6 months ago my great friend Kimberly Lappen offered me her beautiful bitch, Blumoon Silver Bi Design to breed when she came in season.  I no longer had my own brood bitch and I was desperately longing for another litter in the hopes of producing a puppy to show and train in agility, as well as to show in conformation.   Silvi came in season in October.  She was bred to Ch Rosmoor Protocol, owned and bred by Jennie Hynes of Rosmoor Shelties.  Kenshe is a beautiful tri color dog.  You can check him out on Jennie's web site which I have linked to this blog.  The puppies are due any day, and knowing my luck they will be born on Christmas day when we have 25 house guests over for dinner!  So far Silvi's temp hasn't dropped, so I predict she will have them the weekend of the 26th.  (Please not during dinner on Christmas day!)  Silvi is doing very well, and has settled right in to life at our house.  She is definitely uncomfortable, especially at night when the puppies seem to be the most active, and she can no longer eat her meals at one time.  They usually last her 3-4 hours.  Stay tuned for updates!
